Memory v.2 is a woven version of my original work Memory, which I created in Japan using a traditional resist-dyeing technique. For this version, I adjusted the composition slightly and softened the color palette to better suit my home.
The design draws inspiration from the retro-style memory games I used to play as a child.  I remember how the cards had both abstract and figurative motifs like florals, animals and geometric shapes, and some could only be told apart by tiny details, which made the game all the more challenging. I wanted to capture that same sense of playfulness and visual rhythm in my design.
The soft tapestry was woven by Fiberart, a U.S.-based weaving studio specializing in jacquard fabrics. The colors came out beautifully, showcasing the magic of woven textiles: each hue is created from multiple colored threads, yet from a distance the surfaces appear even and solid.
