My sister bought an allotment garden with a cottage some years ago. The garden has become a summer hangout for friends and family, where everyone gathers to celebrate summer festivities and enjoy the fruits and vegetables grown on site. I had the honor of helping decorate the cottage, and I designed a garden-themed wallpaper for the hallway. I also created matching pillows for the cottage using the same pattern. Puutarhavieraat means "garden visitors" in Finnish.
The elements of the pattern were painted by hand with gouache and digitally combined into a pattern.
I created this pattern before starting my design studies, and stylistically it is very different from the work I have designed for classes. The color palette is rich, the composition dense, and the bird motifs cute and playful. The wallpaper tells the story of my growth as a textile designer and how my style has gradually evolved toward a more abstract and refined expression.
The wallpaper was ordered from Spoonflower in May 2020.
