This personal side project came about almost by accident when I rediscovered some black-and-white sketches I had made for a course and began experimenting with turning them into abstract designs. The original sketch was created with ink and soap on a small A5-sized piece of white fabric. Once digitized, turned into a repeat pattern and colored, the simple sketch evolved into a bold pattern, and I knew I had to make something out of the design for myself.
Toukokuu ("May") is a great example of a personal project that begins with a small, spontaneous idea and eventually grows into something much larger than the initial idea. I later adapted the design for other projects, experimenting with different colors. Through this work, I became fascinated with abstract patterns and surfaces and their endless possibilities.
The project was completed in May 2021, and the jersey fabric was ordered from Spoonflower.
